Lumiere Hotel Phnom Penh

Capri By Fraser: a 4-Star Boutique Business Hotel in Phnom Penh

If you’re looking for one of the best hotels in Phnom Penh to stay in for a short business trip, rooftop jacuzzis, and great view of the former ‘Pearl of Asia’, I recommend checking out the Capri By Fraser – formerly known as ‘Lumiere Hotel’.

Located in the heart of bustling Phnom Penh, the Capri By Fraser is a boutique business hotel for travelers looking for all Western amenities and luxuries in Cambodia. I stayed at Capri By Fraser for 8 nights when making a visa run from Vietnam, and couldn’t have been happier with my stay. It was a quiet refuge no more than stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of it all along the riverside.

Below, I’m going to break down some of my favorite things about the Capri By Fraser, and why I think it’s not only one of the best bang-for-your-buck business hotels, but one of the best hotels in Phnom Penh period

Reason #1: Capri By Fraser’s Hotel’s Price

While the price might seem rather steep for Phnom Penh, I assure you it’s worth it. Do note that prices on the Capri website come in around the USD $100+ mark. However, when you book with TripAdvisor or Agoda, you can usually get a room for around $USD 55 to $70 per night. I would like to emphasize that this is not a hotel you book in Phnom Penh when you are looking to stay on a budget. Capri By Fraser is a hotel that I recommend staying in when you’re going for business, traveling with a loved one and want to splurge a bit, or feeling a bit homesick in Asia and in need of familiar amenities.

For a hotel with a fitness center, high speed WiFi, rooftop bar, and rooftop jacuzzis, the price doesn’t get too much better – especially in Phnom Penh.

I would note that beware of the price when checking out Capri’s rooftop bar, as food and drinks are priced at Western standards and can add up quickly. I had several big nights there drinking loaded margaritas ($10) and sampling their yakitori (skewers) menu. Martinis and cocktails are actually somewhat reasonable at Capri, coming in at USD $5.50.

They do however offer a business lunch from 12PM-PM for just USD $10

Reason #2: Chic Rooms

The first thing that blew me away about the rooms was the view. Capri’s whole vibe is that they are similar to a “lighthouse” in Phnom Penh, whereby all rooms have a great view of the city and the Mekong River – especially considering each room is equipped with floor-to-ceiling  windows.

Capri’s contemporary rooms are slick and standard business hotel-fare. They almost remind me of a Japanese capsule hotel, but 25 times the size. I opted for a superior king bed, which was a blessing and a curse – as there were a few days where I just stayed in the room relaxing. Sometimes you end up at hotels where you can never fully black out the room, and are woken up a few hours earlier than planned due to light trickling in. There’s no need to worry about that at Capri By Fraser.

Comparable rooms in any major city would likely run you two to three times (at least) the price. Capri By Fraser is a chance for travelers who might otherwise be unable to stay at a luxury hotel in a major city, to do so affordably (this is definitely me).

Reason #3: Rooftop Jacuzzis

Lumiere Hotel Phnom Penh rooftop jacuzzis

Capri’s rooftop jacuzzis are the first of their kind in Phnom Penh.

Of course it’s cliche, but a picture is worth a thousand words. There’s really not much to say other than “rooftop jacuzzis.” One of my highlights at Capri and in Phnom Penh was posting up in a rooftop jacuzzi just before sunset, and watching the city shift gears first-hand. I went up several nights to hang in their jacuzzis, and was actually surprised that barely anyone was ever up there.

I imagine couples could probably bring a bottle of wine or champagne up there to wind down and watch the Phnom Penh sunset.

Most nights, I was the only one there. No complaints on my end.

There’s a palpable energy in Phnom Penh, and each night I was on the rooftop jacuzzi’ing (is that a real word?) or hanging at their sky bar, it straight up invigorated me for the night ahead.

Final Thoughts & Details For Capri By Fraser in Phnom Penh

I went into my trip to Phnom Penh a bit stressed due to it being for visa purposes, but my stress was quashed immediately after settling in my room at Capri By Fraser. Like I mentioned above, this isn’t just one of the best boutique business hotels in Phnom Penh, I’d consider it one of the best hotels period.

Location-wise, I was no more than a 10-15 minute tuk-tuk ride from where I needed to be. But then again, it felt like that could be the case for wherever you are in Phnom Penh.

Do let me know if you make your way to Phnom Penh or anywhere in Cambodia! I’d love to hear about your trip and any spots you think are worth checking out.

Best,

Big Body
