Sunshine Laundry Convenience Store Seymour Road

My Recommended Hong Kong Laundry Service For Same-Day Turnaround

Hey you. Yeah, you. I can smell you through the screen. Stinkin’ things up like

Pig Pen from Peanuts. It’s time you washed your dirty underpants and those socks that have an ever-expanding hole at the heel.

Forgive me. That was actually an exercise with myself – part of my daily affirmations. I digress.

What I’m trying to say is that if you are visiting Hong Kong, there’s a chance it might not be the first stop of your trip, meaning you need to do some laundry ASAP. Or maybe, you’re halfway through your Hong Kong itinerary and, like me, found a way to spill some sort of viscous sauce all over your brand-new pair of shorts. Or maybe, you, also like me, live in Hong Kong and don’t have a washing machine, so you (unfortunately) need a reliable laundry and dry cleaning service to ensure your clothes are spick and span for the week.

Whatever the case, you need your laundry done and you need it done quickly. I know just the place.

Here is my go-to laundry service in Hong Kong that offers same-day turnaround at affordable prices.

Sunshine Laundry on Seymour Road is a Suds Savior

Sometimes, they’ll ask you if you want to use the ‘special detergent’ (which costs extra). I don’t think it’s necessary at all, so I recommend just declining.

Website, Address, & Details: https://sunshinelaundry.com.hk/en/

  • Location: 13 Seymour Road, Mid-Levels
  • Price: Starts at HK$60 for up to 6 pounds of laundry and HK$5 per half pound thereafter. I typically pack a trash bag full of clothes and spend no more than HK$80 to HK$90

This isn’t meant to be a long post. Just quick, practical, actionable advice.

My go-to spot for same-day affordable laundry in Hong Kong is Sunshine Laundry Convenience Store on Seymour Road in Mid-Levels

I know what you might be thinking, “But Sunshine Laundry is a chain and can be found all over Hong Kong?”. That’s very astute and you are totally correct. However, some branches are far superior to others. That’s because it’s franchised. So, yes, while they all operate under the umbrella of Sunshine Laundry, the owners, their staff, and their service can vary considerably.

For example, the Sunshine Laundry on Caine Road is hands down one of the worst laundry services I’ve ever used. Don’t believe me? Read the reviews. Missing clothes, weird stains, slow turnaround times, the feeling that your clothes aren’t clean, and incredibly rude staff.

It’s so bad that while I live 2 minutes from it, I choose to walk the extra 5 to 7 minutes to the Sunshine Laundry location on Seymour Road where I know the staff isn’t about that hogwash. They are professional (brusque but not rude – just Hong Kong service), extremely efficient, and have never damaged and/or lost any of my clothes.

I repeat, go to the Sunshine Laundry location on Seymour Road. NOT Caine Road!

Sunshine Laundry folded clothes in bag

I’ve never had any issues with missing or damaged clothes at the Seymour Road Branch for over three-plus years now.

For same-day laundry turnaround, you generally should aim to drop it off before 1 PM. I’ve found that it is generally ready around 4 PM to 6 PM. It is returned neatly folded and packaged, making it easy to transport to your hotel or apartment.

For dry cleaning, Sunshine Laundry takes roughly 5 to 7 days for it to be ready (depending on when you drop it off). I’ve had several suits dry cleaned here and it generally runs me no more than HK$250 – including a dress shirt, suit jacket, and suit pants.

Sunshine Laundry also has a handful of self-service laundromats spread across the city. You can find the complete list here

However, at an affordable price of roughly HK$60 for same-day turnaround, it’s more than worth paying for so that you don’t have to miss a single step of your trip. I mean, who wants to be stuck in a laundromat for several hours at a time?

Pale Ale Travel Tip: Wet bathrooms and a lack of washing machines in some apartments is something I’m not a fan of in Hong Kong. Learn more about what I consider the pros and cons of living in Hong Kong in my comprehensive post.

Stop Stinkin’ With Sunshine Laundry

I know the feeling all too well of being in a new city, being stuck wearing several day-old clothes, and just feeling ‘stale’. I also know the frustration that can boil over after feeling like you simply can’t do things that are second nature and easily accessible back home. And I know it can sometimes sour your trip feeling like you were taken for a ride by your hotel after having them wash just three pairs of underpants and two pairs of socks.

Compared to hotel pricing for laundry and dry cleaning, Sunshine Laundry is an absolute steal and should help make your visit to Hong Kong that much smoother.

I can only speak to the quality of the Seymour Road and Caine Road locations of Sunshine Laundry (the former being the only one I recommend), so I always recommend checking a location’s Google reviews before visiting.
