Hilton Munich Airport Hotel

Hilton Munich Airport Hotel Review: Luxury, Convenience, & a Biergarten

If you’ve read any of my other blog posts on Pale Ale Travel, then you definitely know I’m a big fan of Hilton chain hotels. Hilton hotels are chic, conveniently located, moderately priced (we aren’t talking the Four Seasons here), and staffed with some of the utmost professionals.

After making my way up to the Schengen Area from Croatia, where I spent a great night at the Canopy By Hilton in Zagreb after my near 3 months in Split, I found myself ready to depart Europe (flying out of Munich, Germany). As I was exhausted, wanted to slug a few beers, and wake up the next morning with absolutely no worries, I opted to book the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel at Franz Josef Strauß Airport– and I was not disappointed.

Below, I walk through why you should definitely consider booking a night at the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel before you fly out of Munich. Hint: there’s a beer garden close by.

Booking the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel

First, as you may know, I work in blockchain full-time, so I am a huge proponent of using Bitcoin (and crypto in general) in my everyday life. I used Lolli.com, a Bitcoin cashback browser extension and application, that offers up to 30% cashback for certain purchases (such as travel and hotels).

I booked the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel via TripAdvisor.com, using the Lolli extension, and received just about USD $6.50 back on a $140 booking price. This is on top of the roughly 5% cashback I get using my Capital One Venture Rewards card.

This section might sound a bit “shilly” and over-promotional, but I do like maximizing my travel and cashback rewards via any way possible. After a while, the cashback snowball becomes so big that it is self-sustaining and affording travel becomes exponentially easier.

You can sign up for Lolli over at Lolli.com or by using my referral link (to help support Pale Ale Travel).

Location, Location, Location

As we all know, location is everything. While you might be saying, “Big Body, this hotel is at the airport, how could it possibly be a great location?” Well, look at it two ways, (1) I booked this the night before a long flight back to the States, and (2) the Munich airport is a city in itself, complete with a biergarten.

It was glorious waking up the next morning before my flight and not needing to scramble to get packed and to the airport (which is typically par for the course for me). I was already there. I slept in, watched some television, and grabbed several espressos at the Lufthansa lounge before boarding. Zero stress and zero worries. That’s how every flight should be.

You know how some airport hotels still require a shuttle to get to the airport and aren’t nearly as close as they make it seem online? That’s not the case with the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel. You are literally a 2 minute walk from the actual airport.

Hilton Munich Airport Hotel Rooms & Amenities

Hilton Munich Airport Hotel King Guest Room

I stayed my final night in Europe and at the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel right at Covid-19 was ramping up (this was March 8th), and international travel had already begun to die down – so there were not many people staying at the time. Checking in felt a bit eerie, as the lobby was nearly empty, and I swear I could hear my own echo. However, staff was extremely attentive and the experience felt far more personalized than pre-Covid, with the concierge even walking me to the elevator.

Upon swiping my card for the room and entering, I knew I was in for a treat. I was upgraded to a King Guest Room, which clocked in at just over 320 square feet (30 sq. meters) and was bigger than some apartments that I’ve lived in previously. The bed was huge, the bathroom was spacious, and I had a fantastic view looking out over the entrance (I think) of the airport.

One essential that I need, as I’m constantly having to field ridiculous questions from work clients, is a great working spot. This room had a phenomenal, presidential-size desk – perfect for burning the midnight oil at (should you have any last minute work you need to complete before your flight).

The room also offered your quintessentials that you would expect from Hilton chain hotels, such as a hairdryer, iron/ironing board, mini bar, and LCD TV.

I had no complaints on cleanliness at all, and had one of the most relaxing nights of sleep pre-flight I have ever had thanks to this massive bed.

For travelers seeking out an even more luxurious (or healthy) pre or post-flight experience, the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel also boasts an indoor pool, on-site bar and restaurant, and fitness center.

Did I mention how easy it was to get to my terminal the next day and how stress free the whole process was? I think I did.

Did I Mention There is a Biergarten Nearby?

As I mentioned above, I was exhausted from my train from Vienna and just wanted to slug a few beers to unwind (and throw back some pork knuckle as well). Lucky for me (and you), there is an awesome biergarten within walking distance of the hotel called Airbräu.

I won’t dive too much into what makes biergartens great, as you are most likely coming hot off of your fair share of beers in Germany yourself, but Airbrau captured the essence of German biergartens in an otherwise non-traditional environment.

Keep in mind that patrons are not getting as rowdy here as one might at some of the more popular biergartens in downtown Munich, but rest assured that Airbrau is a great spot to get your last few drops of authentic German beer down the hatch.

I would be remiss not to mention that I had one last Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) at Airbrau, which definitely passed muster. While it wasn’t my favorite pork knuckle I’ve encountered in my meat adventures, it was far better than anything you could get your hands on at Logan Airport in Boston (the airport closest to my hometown).

Final Thoughts on the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel

The Hilton Munich Airport Hotel was the perfect final destination and send-off for me before heading back to the States (where I did not realize I would be stuck here so long). The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, the room made me feel like Richie Rich, and the nearby biergarten allowed me to enjoy a few final German beers without worrying about scrambling to catch my flight the next day.

So, if you are looking for a hotel that cuts out the hassle of commuting on the day of your flight (or after), look no further than the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel.

If you’ve stayed at the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel or any other Hiltons in Europe (and have any recommendations), I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Or, let me know if you’ve slugged a few beers at Airbrau!
