My Fifth Month’s Earnings on Mediavine Journey [January 2025]

Big Body here. Back with another monthly income report. I’ll keep this one short as not much seems to be moving at the moment, especially since I embarked on a 7-week self-imposed moratorium from Hong Kong and headed back home to New Hampshire.

It was much needed as I was somewhat throttled by Google’s December update and needed some time to recollect and re-strategize.

I’ve just returned to Hong Kong and am looking forward to getting back to a more regular publishing routine.

To get a picture of what my first months on Mediavine Journey looked like, including important terms I use to describe earnings, make sure to read these past articles:

So, here is exactly how much my travel blog earned on Mediavine Journey in January 2025.

Mediavine Journey’s dashboard only shows the last 30 days, so it’s about $1 lower in the above picture.

My January 2025 earnings on Mediavine Journey were $45.15. This amounted to roughly $4 less than the previous month’s.

There wasn’t anything particularly of note about my site and its earnings during January other than one rogue/outlier of a day where I earned just over $4.40 thanks to an RPM of $13.89.

I was somewhat baffled by this as it was roughly double any of the highs I had previously seen and nearly 3x of what feels to be my ‘baseline RPM’.

I would not hate more days like this one. That’s more of the RPM I was hoping for!

Overall, five months in, I can’t say that I’m thrilled with Mediavine Journey. But I also recognize that my site still has a long way to go and a lot of kinks to work out before we are anywhere close to earning some sort of ‘serious income’ from blogging.

It is still fulfilling in the way that I get a high every single time I publish a new piece of content and I am continuously learning and being humbled. So, I’ll continue until that subsides (which I hope is NEVER).

I guess that’s part of the journey. C’est la vie.

Pale Ale Travel Tip: Considering finally taking that first step and launching your very own blog? I’ve got you covered. Make sure to check out my post breaking down WordPress.org vs. Beehiiv for Blogging, where I break down what I think is best for beginners and how exactly I’d approach getting everything set up.

Beam Me Up, Google

For February, I’m going to continue hitting it hard with publishing as I have a relatively narrowed-down blueprint that I’m attempting to follow over the next several months.

So it will be interesting to see exactly how it plays out in the SERPs and earnings-wise. I’m also going to restructure my menu as I don’t think it allows users/readers to navigate to similar articles, destinations, and topics as easily as they’d like to – resulting in missed pageviews.

If you have any questions about launching a travel blog or monetizing it, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me and I’ll try and help in any way I can!

Write well everyone,

Big Body
